I wrote this while still attending UNR, and the first performance of this piece in the combo forum in the CFA. I remember feeling like I was taking a lot of classes that didn't feel as if they had much to do with my career goals and also like I was around more like-minded musicians than I had ever been in my life up to that point. So the two words together are plain enough--my college experience felt like a collage of many different things I was learning. Looking back, life has never been completely, solely about music, at least not for me. It has all been, for better or worse, a collage or quilt of things that come together to eventually form my present perspective.

Originally this was just a vibraphone etude I used, to play something musical--to get me started in practice. I needed a piece for my college band and so I wrote an additional melody over the top of the vibraphone part for the tenor sax and violin who were a part of the group. Our piano player covered the vibes part and I played the drums.
For this recording the instrumentation is different but the parts are mostly the same, I play vibraphone, and Talia covers the violin part on flute. Josh joined the group with guitar and doubled the vibraphone part with me. I like this arrangement much better.
